Ancient talisman

This necklace looks like something discovered on an archeological site in Peru. The copper wire really brings out the colours in the stone, which is sometimes called copper green opal but is really a kind of chalcedony. The wire is wrapped to make the most of this large stone.

“Copper green opal” chalcedony, patinated 12 and 22 gauge copper wire. Approximately 2 3/8″ x 1 5/8″ (6 cm x 4 cm).

Introduction to metal clay

This six-hour course, given over two evenings or weekend days, will introduce the student to working with bronze and copper metal clay. The first class will begin with a short explanation of the science behind metal clay, how it works, what tools are needed, etc. Then the fun begins! Students will create pieces using various textures.

Pieces will be fired in my kiln between classes. The second class will cover finishing the fired piece – sanding, polishing and adding colour, if desired.

Clay, texture plates and all tools are provided. Maximum four students. Private classes also available for the same fee.

If you are interested in metal clay, but not ready to invest in a kiln, in addition to classes, I also offer a firing service. Contact us for details.
