Metal clay necklaces

Poppy prefers to use base metal clays, predominantly bronze, copper, steel, and a white bronze that looks similar to silver. Sometimes she only uses a single metal, other times, she mixes it up.

The classic metal mixing is mokume gane. Mokume gane was first used in 17th century Japanese swords and mixed metals by forging them together into various patterns. Metal clay allows us to combine those same metals today, in the same patterns, but much more easily.

Sunburst

This pendant is made of teardrop-shaped mokume gane pieces, set in a sunburst (or flower, if you prefer, though the colours remind me more of the sun) design on a copper base. Back has both a bail and a pinback so that it can also be worn as a pin.

Copper, bronze, steel mokume gane, approximately 1 3/4″ (4cm) in diameter.

Poppy Seed Head

There had to be at least one poppy here, somewhere. I love the look of the seed heads after the flower is spent as much as the flower itself.

Draped metal

The fun thing about metal clay is that when it's still in the clay state, you can play with it to create lovely folds, and once it's fired, they stay that way!

Bronze, approximately 1" (2.5 cm) in diameter.

Price: $30.00

Orthodox church

This pendant is based on St. Elias Cathedral, a beautiful building. I have been quite taken with church architecture recently, especially churches from the East. I am working on further designs, as I find the shapes and massing quite harmonious.

Fine silver (.999), approximately 1' (2. cm).
